| Martinez opened up the scoring for Inter during their Champions League encounter with Liverpool. |
Even though the Italian champions had a goal disallowed shortly after the hour mark, Liverpool were able to hold on when Alexis Sanchez was giving the second yellow card.
Despite the defeat, Jurgen Klopp's team will also not be worried about it - the hard effort they put together at the San Siro was what paid off.
Despite beating 0-2 at home by Liverpool's only two efforts on goal in the first leg, Inter's Simone Inzaghi's side delivered again a courageous display today.
In the moments preceding Martinez's goal, though, it really was Liverpool who seemed to have got that close to scoring in that game, as Joel Matip header just went just wide alongside Mohamed Salah's effort on the ball hitting the bottom of the goal post.
Having a 2-0 advantage during the first leg, Reds didn't feel such a need to push their advantage at Anfield. Their offside trap kept Inter at home.
Martinez's long-range strike against Alisson sparked a flurry of nervousness among the home spectators. It wasn't long until Sanchez's second yellow changed the mood.
Inter Milan striker Sanchez, was lucky to just be yellow carded for pulling blood from Thiago using his boots during first-half clash.
That red card came after an innocuous tackle on Fabinho, but Klopp said that the official had no choice but to punish the player who'd fouled him for a follow-through after he'd gained control of the ball.
According to Klopp, "If you can't grab the ball without injuring an opponent, then it's a foul. "And he got the best of him. The very first challenge that came from Sanchez to Liverpool player Thiago, was fortunate for him."
A tired Inter squad was unable to halt Liverpool's momentum in the last minutes, as Mohamed Salah miraculously managed to strike again but with good result on that.
Although Luis Diaz's goal was not decisive in injury time, it had to be a disappointment nevertheless for the home side. Later, Klopp added, "Such days may occur. "in Upcoming time, we'll do better."
Fortunately for the reds, another opportunity will arise. In the Champions League, they're still going strong.
