Wayne Rooney prefers PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino than Ajax Ten Hag as the new Manchester boss.

United's future manager ought to be Mauricio Pochettino, according to Wayne Rooney as he spoke on Monday Night Football.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has endorsed Mauricio Pochettino to take over from the interim manager Ralf Rangnick as the club's next manager because of Pochettino's Premier League expertise and track record of developing young players.

As a result of Paul Pogba as well as Cristiano Ronaldo's leaving leaving the club, Rooney feels the incoming manager will need to completely strengthen the team this summer.

Despite United's departure from UEFA Champion league a month back, they have not won a trophy since winning the Europa League in 2017 with Jose Mourinho as United boss then. This is United's longest drought for a trophy in 40 years.

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Manchester United's chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season, Rooney spoke out on Monday Night Football about the concerns surrounding his old team.

Asked by Sky Sports, Rooney said, "It's been a strange season," They seem to be a team of folks from what I've seen when I've seen them in person. The team's ability to bounce back after a mistake is seldom seen as easy.

"I can look at it and say it hasn't been good enough as we have that group of players they need to be doing better. They're going through a tough time as a club, and I think what everyone wants is for them to get the manager situation sorted as soon as possible, and they have to rebuild for the next two or three years to make sure they're challenging again."

Manchester United may not fight for the Premier League championship in "two or three transfer windows," or till 18 months time according to the club's interim manage Ralf Rangnick.

"Absolutely, was Rooney's response. For United is no threat, I believe they would want the season to come to an end and forget about the Champions League. Even if they qualify, they will not participate in the tournament in its current form."

"It is imperative that they restore the first-team squad and the whole club to ensure they are in a position to compete for the Premier League in 2 or 3 years' time." Everyone wants to know who will be the next manager of Manchester United.
